Tuesday morning we woke up to a winter wonderland with a beautiful snow covering everything. Coincidentally, the devotional I read in the morning talked about the passage in Isaiah where God says, "though your sins be like scarlet, they shall be white as snow" (Isaiah 1:18)
I've been thinking about the wonder of God's forgiveness since that moment. I started thinking about the ugly, dirty pile of sins I would have accumulated by now if it hadn't been for the forgiveness I've received through Christ. And even more amazing is the fact that even if I had that nasty pile of unforgiven sin sitting there; His forgiveness would cover all of it in an instant if I believed and asked Him to forgive me!
I believe that the authenticity of our worship is directly tied to our gratitude for redemption. Our gratitude is tied to humility. Proud people don't see a need to be forgiven and thereby cannot worship God. Grace only amazes people who have felt the full weight of their own sin and brokenness.
Look at the snow outside your window and take a moment to worship. Thank God for the forgiveness He has offered you. Thank Him for taking the worst moments of your life and the dirtiest parts of your past and turning them to pure white. That is a miracle that should never stop amazing us!
