DYING TO SELF (PART 2)

John 12:24 “Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies……. it bears much fruit.”

Dying to self can be a terrifying experience. But sometimes, it is in the dying, that we experience life abundant. God has so much in store for our lives, but unfortunately, our self gets in the way over and over again.

Several years ago, my husband and I saw a dream of ours completely fall apart. We had invested a lot of energy and time into this and we were actually enjoying ourselves to the fullest, when God said, “It’s over. Now.” Man, we fought it. We reasoned. We tried everything we could think of to keep moving forward. But God was clear.

It was one of the hardest things we’d ever done, the day we laid that dream down and let it die. We turned and walked away.

But in the dying, God brought life.

Sometimes God has to rid us of ourselves so He can do the work He wants to do in our in our hearts and lives. When we yield ourselves and allow Him to do His thing, the results are often different than we had dreamed, but better than we could imagine.

Maybe there’s something that God wants you to surrender right now. Maybe you’re fighting it with every part of your being. Maybe you just haven’t been able to let it go. Psalm 46:10 says “Cease striving, and know that I am God.” To “cease striving” means to stop trying to do it on your own. Stop trying to make it happen. Let God be God in your situation. Let Him do His thing. Die to your wants, needs, and desires. Stand back and watch Him work. Be encouraged today. God’s plans are to bring you abundant life, and to make you the person He wants you to be. His plans are not to harm you, but to bring you fulfillment, and ultimately, to glorify Him.
